Walk gates built into the fence line

The gate is the part of a fence you touch every day, so we treat it as part of the fence, not an add-on. It is built from the same cedar as the run beside it, with the same cap, the same board pattern and the same stain if the fence is stained.

Why do wood gates sag?

A wood gate hangs all of its weight off one side. Over time that weight pulls the latch corner down, and the gate starts to drag or stops lining up with the latch.

It usually comes down to three things: a frame that is not braced to hold its shape, hinges or a post that cannot carry the weight, or a post that has moved in the ground. The first two are the builder's job to get right.

On a gate we build, that is our problem, not yours. Our five-year craftsmanship warranty covers a gate that sags, a post that leans or shifts, and a component that comes loose, but not a post moved by the ground shifting underneath it.

Arched, flat or horizontal gates

The style of the gate follows the fence. An arched top can be cut into a board on board run, a flat top carries the same cap and trim, and a horizontal fence gets a horizontal gate. If you want a detail in the gate panel, like the small iron grill in the photos above, the iron comes through our dedicated specialty crew.
